Unable to change Automatic Update settings

I'm running XP Home SP2 with full admin rights on my standalone PC. I
used to have my Automatic Updates set to notify only (not install).
Without doing anything myself, I noticed that the setting changed from
Notify to Automatic. Now all the options are greyed out and I can't
change it.

How can I "ungrey" out Automatic Updates options? I don't like the idea
of MS installing patches without my having the chance to review them
first.

I've check MS-Technet but it was useless...

If I can't ungrey the Automatic Updates option and return it to Notify,
can I override this by turning off the Automatic Updates service (by
setting it to manual) and then running the Windows Update myself?

I'd prefer to find a way to ungrey the options, but when you're talking
MS, you're talking guerilla warfare...

Thanks for any help.

Thanks Patti, but I don't feel safe importing someone else's REG file.

Do you have an idea what the registry entry is? Maybe I can edit it
myself.

Save the updaterestore.reg file to a folder, then right-click on it and
choose to Edit or Open With>Notepad so that you can review the registry
edits.
