Unable to boot computer

my computer will not boot. the system message i

Windows could not start because of the following file in missing or corrupt
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTE

You may attempt to repair file by starting Windows Setup wusing the original Setup CD-ROM
Select 'r' at the first screen to start repai

dont know what disk to use for setup or what it even looks like. please help

What OS are you using ? You use the CDRom that you installed your OS from.
The Silver/brown tinted one with the shiny MS logo on it. Stick it in and
when prompted choose " REPAIR " . Hopefully that should fix it for you and
allow you to get to the desktop.

I get this same error message and have tried booting from my original setup cd but I get another error message about a line error. I've even tried a friends cd to eliminate the chance the it was the problem. Basically, I can't get to the recovery console option. When I checked the KB article 307545 the warning is not to go through the procedure with an oem op system, which of course I have.

Sounds like a corrupt boot.ini search the web for the default boot.ini
settings.
