Unable to access secure sites

I use Windows 98 with Office 2000 Professional. I
attempted to download and install Office 2000 SP1
yesterday from the Office Update website. It downloaded OK
but would not install. Two other files also downloaded and
were installed ok. I cannot remember what these related
to! Following this, I am now unable to access any websites
with secure servers including hotmail, msn messenger, my
bank etc.

If anyone knows how to resolve this, please contact me as
soon as possible.

many thanks in advance.

You might want to check in tools \ internet options \ advanced tab.
Near the bottom you'll find two boxes for SSL settings. Put checks in
them, then apply and okay your way out. (May need to reboot.)

Other than that, although it will likely undo the two programs that
you installed, you could restart in dos, then use
scanreg /restore
to return the registry to a state before the problem began.
