Un-stretch photo image

I recently installed XP media center on a recovered PC and am viewing the
images on a new 16x9 monitor/TV. My photo images are stretched horizontally,
making the geometry distorted. I tried the different resolutions using
control panel/display/advanced but each option yields the stretched format.
Is there some way to select 4x3 aspect ratio or another way to make the
geometry accurate?

FWIW...to view an almost square picture
full screen on a rectangle shaped screen...
one of two things must happen....the picture
will be stretched or it must be cropped to fit
the aspect ratio of the widescreen.

Setting your Screen Resolution to
the 'Native Resolution' of your monitor
should clear this up but your 4:3 pix
will not fill a widescreen.

There appears to be some useful
info in the following discussion:

Where is this "native resolution" setting? I thought that I tried all of the
ones in Control Panel display settings.

I understand that I will have black bars when I view a 4x3 on a 16x9 screen.
I prefer that to the stretched image. My face looks fat enough already ;-)

=================================
The "native resolution" setting should be included
in your Monitor's User Manual...or you might have
to check with the Support site of your Monitor's
manufacturer..

It's possible that your current video driver does not
suppport the screen resolution you need. You may
need to update your video driver.

I suspected you already knew about the black bars
but there are always lurkers who may benefit from
reading these messages.

Cheers.
