Ultimate OS version 5840?

D

Please help!!
I haven't had any problems until now. New llittle printer (HP OfficeJet
5740) will NOT install...says I have OS version 5840 (beta) of Vista Ultimate
and I need OS 6000. My 5 year old HP printer worked fine with my version of
Vista.
I'm really confused - system information does NOT indicate that I have a
beta version of anything. I received the software from MS at a launch in
Dallas, TX in Feb. Everything has worked well so far.
PS Pitstop says I have "Windows Scripting Version 5.7.0.5840"...what do I
need to do? Is my copy of Vista beta? If so, why didn't MS tell me so? If
not, why does HP not talk to it? Do I need to get a printer from a different
maunfacturer?
Please advise... I seriously need some help.

Thats an old beta build that was designated RC2, its not the final version
of Windows Vista. Please purchase the final version of Windows Vista which
is 6.0.6000.16480

Please follow this simple troubleshooting procedure:

1. Download and run the MGA Diagnostic Tool:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

2. After running the MGA Diagnostic Tool, click on the "Windows" tab and then click on "Copy".

3. Next, visit the following website and create a post in the "WGA Validation Problems"
forum and paste the results of the WGA Diagnostic Data in a detailed post.
http://forums.microsoft.com/Genuine/default.aspx?SiteID=25

4. A WGA troubleshooting specialist will analyze the data and recommend an appropriate solution.

The RTM version is 6000 so you have some sort of pre-release version. Go
back where you bought the thing require them to give you a proper copy.

Also, not because Microsoft gave you something at launch means it has to be
the full real deal. Suppose they had given you a trial copy of Vista and it
expired, would you also complain that they should have given you the real
full version? Also, what I find strange is that your build has not expire
from June, unless you are not telling us the whole story here.

I am aware of the Frankenstein Vista builds where you use code from 5840 and
the RTM build to bypass activation.

I have a 25 character product key for the Vista product to "activate the
32-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate included in this kit". There is no
indication on the package that it is a pre-release. How can I find out if it
is?
thanks for you input,

i really appreciate your input. It's possible that my copy was not installed
on my machine. I had a new system built in March to use with Vista and Office
07...maybe a different version of Vista was installed instead.

Its possible and the Frankenstein version Vista based on build 5840 was
installed instead of the actual RTM build.
