Type32.exe problems with new MS Keyboard

B

Brian Denley

I recently purchased a new MS Wireless Desktop Elite
Keyboard. The problem is that the accessory keys stop
working frequently. Whenever this happens, I notice that
type32.exe has stopped responding (takes several minutes
to get it the system shutdown after this).

I know what this routine (type32.exe) does but why does
it keep crashing? I have re-installed the keyboard
software a number of times and I have uninstalled the
origianl keyboard software (Gateway). This is a year old
system with an OEM XP installation.

Anyone got any ideas? It's driving me crazy.
Thanks
Brian

I have had exactly the same problem. I found it crashed
when I assigned a URL to one of these hotkeys. If I
assign a program (exe) it works. Try to tak out any web
pages you have assigned to these keys - all the other
then work okay.
Obviously a software problem - maybe Microsoft will fix
it one day!

I have the wireless desktop pro and developed problems with the type32
program. THe keyboard would work, but the extra keys would not. It
had been working perfectly, and the only thing that I could remember
doing was updating zonealarm pro from version 4 to 4.5. Sure enough,
if I shutdown zonealarm, the keyboard (once type32 was started again)
would work fine. If I them restarted zonealarm, type32 would stop
working. I finally uninstalled 4.5 and reinstalled 4.0 Everything
was fine after that.
