TWS2 gameport issues (how to turn "poll with interrupts off?)

Hello I have a question, I recently bought a used high end steering wheel for
my PC. I'm not sure if you have heard of Thomas Enterprises but they make
probably the best PC steering wheels on the market.

My problem is as follows I copied this directly off of the Thomas web site.

"The other issue is with the game port in general. Previous windows
versions have had an option within the controller setup app called the "poll
with interrupts enabled" box. On some systems, having a checkmark in this box
would result in erratic behavior on all axes, sometimes severe to the point
of being undriveable. Unchecking the box would solve this problem. With
Windows XP, the "poll with interrupts enabled" box is no longer present, and
because of this, some XP users experience the erratic behavior, and they are
unable to resolve it."

Surely with all of the brain power I have seen in other posts this issue
should be easy to resolve.

any help is appreciated,

You can not! Gameport support has stopped in XP. You now need USB gaming
devices.

There are no older drivers for the game port devices, since the form in
which they were written is not supported on Windows XP - however, just plug
in the controller, then go into Control Panel/Game Controllers and select
Add, then scroll to the proper device (like Microsoft SideWinder) listing,
highlight it and then OK your way out.

The correct drivers necessary are already part of Windows XP and will be
installed for you by the system. You will lose the old "profile"
capabilities formerly available in Game Controllers, but if the games
themselves support the settings, you can save them there.

I'm pretty sure additional information may be available from specific forums
where the racing game(s) you're running are supported or popular.

I don't think I was entirely clear when I was explaining my issue? The
problem is not that I can't get it to detect it shows up fine. The problem
is that the input gets all jittery every time I turn the wheel. Kinda like
driving in an earth quake, I know there has got to be something in the
Registry I can change to get the same effect as I mentioned before the "poll
with Interrupts" thing. Unfortunately I didn't find an entry like this in
the reg. but I'm sure it's there in some form or another.

thanx guys,

David, I've heard of this type thing, but believe it is actually a setting
in one of the game files - depending on the game. If it is doing it in
everything, then I would say it is a controller issue (hardware) and nothing
we can do about it. The suggestion to find a support group for the racing
game(s) you're playing was partially for the specifics of the game(s)
themselves. There a pretty fine public newsgroup - rec.autos.simulators -
available on most pubic news feeds.

Chris, I'm positive it's a windows issue because it does this in the windows
calibration screen as well. Actually I found this on the creative web site
(makers of my sound card)

"If you are still experiencing problems, click Start and go to Settings.
Click Control Panel and then Add New Hardware. Install a Microsoft Gameport
Joystick and configure it to use I/O address 0201-0201. Sometimes steering
wheels and gamepads require this but you must still have the Creative
Gameport Joystick configured as before using I/O 0200- 0207."

I'm gunna give this a try and I'll post again if I have no luck. I'd bet
it's not a hardware going bad issue because they address this specifically on
the web site everyone has told me these things last forever and this one
looks like it's never been used...

Thanx for your help,

David

Good luck with it, David. I'm quite positive the folks over in the
rec.autos.simulators newsgroup would have further assistance for you.
They've used about every configuration possible.
