how do I turn off synchronization?

Computer running outlook 2003 becomes unusable due to "outlook is
synchonizing file folders" which happens frequently. Only one profile
exists for mail-outlook with 2 POP3 email accounts. Auto creation of
exchange views or folders is not enabled, running current daily updated
ZA security suite with anti-virus, anti-spyware, etc. In this version
even with show hidden files flagged n ost files are found. Please
help!!

I do not show any off-line folders in nav panel or does properties
show any tabs to set this. I have no evidence that outlook thinks
there is an exchange server other than this behavior and an occasional
ThorWinClass error which appears to be related to exchange servers.

I have a similar problem for which I found a possible work-around but no
permanent solution. My PC runs OL 2003 sp2 with latest Office updates, has a
single profile and is configured to receive email from a single POP3 server,
and often it gives an error saying 'POP3 Server Address - Receiving'
reported error (0x80042110) : ' Your POP3 server is providing inconsisten
information. The number of messages returned by the STAT command does not
match the number of items returned by the UIDL or LIST commands. Contact
your POP3 or Internet service provider. ' Or, sometimes the email works, but
the Outlook receives 2 messages instead of one.

But my POP3 mail provider (NetSol) has proved to me there is nothing wrong
with their system. I have 5 other clients with the same system without this
error. The problem must be in Outlook 2003. Called MS but didn't want to
pay for an incident, because, I think I may have found a work-around. After
I go into the POP Account Settings and click Test Account Settings, the 5
checks complete (the 3rd and 4th take a little more time than usual), and
then the computer starts receiving email regularly. I'm pretty sure the
problem will come back each morning, but if all I have to do is go the Test
Account Settings to resolve it, I don't feel like wasting time and money on
MS per-incident support.

I did some research on the MS Knowledge Base before stumbling on this
workaround. KB art 834716 describes a similar problem that a post SP1 hotfix
resolves. KB art 885870 describes a similar problem that SP2 fixes. But
since I am already running SP2, these hotfixes do not apply to me. It seems
the problem, in my case, is related to the fact that I have configure OL to
leave a copy of the messages on the POP3 server for a few days (so I can
synch it with my PDA). The first above KB article describes the files that
get modified by the Hotfix. I checked the dates and versions of these files
on my PC, and all mine are a later date and different assorted versions,
probably because of SP2 and subsequent Office updates being installed.

Hope this info helps, and if anyone out there knows of a permanent solution,
I'd like to hear it!

I see I'm not the only one with this problem. This started a couple of days
ago for me, about the time I installed Yahoo! Go to synch email with my new
PDA Smartphone with Windows Mobile 5. I can't prove that caused the problem
but I started receiving the same 0x80042110 POP3 server error.

What's interesting is I do see an inconsistency when I telnet to the POP3
mail server in that what the initial sign-on message shows disagrees with the
number of messages shown when I use the LIST or STAT command. Even
AT&T/SBC's new web-mail beta client has a problem with this as it displays a
"phantom" email in the Inbox I cannot delete. However, getting them to admit
there is something wrong with my Inbox requires an act of congress,
especially since their support seems to go to India to someone who couldn't
comprehend what I was describing.

It's true that Outlook 2003 is the only email client experiencing the
consistency problem? Is there an easier way to turn off this consistency
check, perhaps a registry change?

Thanks.

I am also having the exact same problem. I just purchase a new laptop and
Outlook 2003 came with it. I use a yahoo account and when I try to receive
email, it gives me the error. I turned off the feature that allows you to
keep your emails on the server and that didn't help. I opened up yahoo.com
and moved the inbox emails to another folder and back to see if that would
help. When the inbox was empty Outlook completed the Send/Receive process
without any errors, but when the contents were moved back the error came back.

This is a frustrating issue that needs some attention by Microsoft.

Did anyone ever figure out how to RESOLVE this issue?

The ONLY workaround besides sitting on the phone with SBC/Yahoo! for
hours and hours is to DELETE the POP account and then recreate it.
This is too much work...

I called Tech Support and they told me that it has to do w/ the Billing
issue??? HUH??? WTF???

Anyway, please advice if you have a solution to this error:

Task 'Email- Receiving' reported error (0x80042110) : 'Your POP3 server
is providing inconsistent information. The number of messages returned
by the STAT command does not match the number of items returned by the
UIDL or LIST commands. Contact your POP3 or Internet service
provider.'

Thank you
