two firewalls?

Is it ever advisable to run two firewalls? I understand that some say
there will be a conflict, but do we know this for a certainty? I'm
curious whether anyone has tried the firewall that is native to SP 2 and
the free version of ZA. Thanks.

If your guna you za you dont need another one If you have borad band you
could just get a router and skip the crappy software firewalls b/c the
router has one built in.

Hi

The XP Firewall doesn't monitor outgoing access to the Internet. ZA is
'2-way' and does monitor outgoing access to the Internet.. If you install
ZA, the XP Firewall can be disabled.

I ran them both together for a while and had no conflicts. I did
have a slight problem with Zone Alarm itself, which cased me to
drop down from version 5 to version 4.5, but neither version
clashed with the Windows firewall. I deactivated the Windows
firewall just to head off possible unexpected problems that might
crop up in the future, but I wasn't forced to do so.

A router does not check for traffic leaving the computer, i.e. spyware
"phoning home", but 3rd party firewalls do. You should use both a
software firewall and the in coming protection provided by the router.

No. As far as I'm concerned, the proper way to say it is *risk*
of conflicts between the two.

Many people have. Most people report no problems doing so.

Nevertheless, there is still always a risk of conflicts, running
both wastes system resources, and running both adds no protection
over just running just ZA. To me it's a no-brainer--don't do it.

James:

I run ZA free v 5.1.011 and SP2's Windows firewall together without any
problems.

Yes. One can offer protection that the other cannot.
For example: Windows Firewall can dynamically block source address spoofing,
while ZA free cannot. And, ZA free does application outbound control, while
Windows Firewall does not.
