Two CPUs Two Monitors

M

Mike

All,

I would like to be able to run a dual monitor setup and be able to
switch between two CPUs (while maintaining the dual monitors). Any
ideas on a reasonable switch? One device has DVI while the other just
has a graphics card that allows for dual monitors.

Thanks,

Mike

Youre either kidding or confused.

Explain why you think the number of CPUs has anything to do with the
number of monitors.

I presume by CPU you actually mean computer. Can explain further, which
machines have which outputs? Do you want both machines to run as dual
monitor and switch both monitors at once?

Your question is to vague.
Are you saying you have two computers and two monitors and want to switch
between a dual monitor setup on one and two individual computers. What we
need to know is what type of outputs you have on each computer and what
input the monitor has and your goal

Why is his question hard to grasp, moron. He has 2 computers. He has 2
monitors. He wants to switch between them. So 1 computer takes over 2
monitors, and at the touch of a button, the other computer takes over the
same 2 monitors.

Pause to get that into your mind.

Now, his problem is the differing connectors. See they are not the same,
because they are different. Kinda like smart people are different than YOU.

Breathe.

So, does somebody know of a tool to do this? I have never seen one, so I
can't help. But at least I'm not asking dumbshit questions and putting him
down. Idiot.

You'd need to get a couple of dvi-VGA adapters to make this work. Only
the specs say it suports digital signals only, So it throws off the
possiblility of the VGA.

This one is VGA compatible, You can still get a vga-dvi adaptor, as
long as your monitor isn't dvi only. Probably your best bet.

I apparently was not clear enough, but Mabden apparently understood my
question precisely. I have two computers and two monitors. Currently,
I have one computer set up to run with dual monitors (one DVI and one
VGA). I have another computer sitting next to my desk and I want a
switch to be able to toggle between one computer and the other while
maintaining the dual monitor setup. The second computer has a dual
monitor graphics card. After some more searching I think this switch
will work, but before I drop $170 it would be nice to know if anyone
has made this work before.

Mabden, thanks for confirming that there are some intelligent and
thoughful people on this list.

Again, thanks a ton for the thoughts. As I noted in my follow-up
posting above, I will try the Iogear switch you suggested. I
appreciate the thoughtful input.

I suspect this will do what you want, but only if everything is VGA. The
KVM only has
VGA ports.

Great. On one computer I can take either DVI or VGA. The other is
just VGA. But, should work.

Thanks much,

Because he did not say "computers." He said "CPUs" and since most
new highend computers today actually do have two CPUs Most technical
minded people will not parse "two CPUs" as two separate machines unless
they deal daily with the computer clueless. As for the "moron" comment,
it makes you sound like a 22yo from CompUSA who thinks he's God's gift
to the world of hardware. I'd fire you immediately for that if you
worked for me, if you didn't I'd smack you. It's unprofessional and
unnecessary.

I stand corrected. You're 12 year old. No one thinking clearly should
take any advice from someone that acts this way.

So after calling someone a moron and an idiot in response to a post
that clearly showed nor deserved either you first prove that you know
less than said moron/idiot and you expect someone to answer a question?
What a real piece of work you are. If you came through my door I'd give
you some witty phrase used by The Gord and send you on your way.

As previously mentioned a KVM switch that will operate 2 monitors
will work. I have a dual monitor set up and two computers, but my KVM
only switches my keyboard and mouse. I use dual DVI out from one machine
to the DVI inputs and a single D-Sub out to the D-Sub input on one
monitor. That way with a 2nd mouse and KB I can operat both at the same
time if I like. Excellent setup for gaming.

A DVI to VGA adapter is only an extra $5 -$10, and can be had at almost
any local PC-store.

Mike,

Jusst buy an iomega kvm. They sell 2-4 ports are resonable price from
bestbuy.
They can used standard monitor card.
You would presss crtl+scroll lock for the 2 port to switch between cpus

You really are a ****wit Mabden. The question simply wasn't 100% clear.

That you really are a ****wit? Believe me that's loud and clear.

In which part of my post did I put him down? I very politely asked for
clarification of the exact configuration.

I really can't wait for school holidays to be over.
