Tweakui 133

F

Frank Hearth

I downloaded the "Tweakui 133 program from PCworld's web
site and then "installed" the Tweakui.inf program. The
Icon showed up in the control panel. After running it and
changing a few of the settings, I now cannot open
the "ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS program from the control panel
and also the control panel listing is now gone from the
Start--Settings feature.

All I get now is an error screen when I try to open the
add or remove programs. How can I get my old settings
back ? I tried deleteing everything that was associated
with the word "tweakui" from the registry, but it didn't
help.

I guess I really screwed up. Any help would be appreciated
on how to get rid of all the tweakui program and it's
setting that I inadvertanty did something wrong with.

Thanks for any help !!
Frank...........

What error message? Hacking the registry was probably the worst possible
move at this point.

The error message I get for many Icons in the Control
Panel including the add/remove programs Icon is:
"This program has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer. Please contact your system
administrator" (That's me !

Hi Dave: I am very familiar with the registry and believe
I didn't do anything that would harm other programming on
my computer. I say that because all of my other
programming on the computer still operates O.K.

Thanks for any other possible solutions. P.S.: The error
message reads as follows:
"This program has been cancelled due to restrictions in
effect on this computer. Please contact your
administrator" I AM the administrator !

Run %windir%\system32\gpedit.msc
User Config\Admin Templates\Control Panel, then change Control Panel access
back to "Not Configured"

I ran the program as you suggested (%windir%\system32
\gpedit.msc" and after checking every one of the listings,
they ALL showed "NOT CONFIGURED". Even all the other
listings I checked all showed "Not Configured". Any other
ideas of what might be wrong ?

Frank, if you're comfortable working in the registry, then take a look at
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/reskit/en-us/regentry/36624.asp.
You might poke around in your computer's [...Policies\Explorer] or
[...Policies\System] subkeys and scan for values that look relevant to your
problem.
