TV Wonder MMC 7.9

I have a TV Wonder PCI that is running MMC 7.9. Is it possible to run
MMC 8.1 and up with the card? ATI says that you need an original
installation
CD for 8.1 to install, you can't just download it (which I don't have). If I
were to order one from ATI, would it work and if so which CD should I order.
There are 20 different one's available. (I'm interested in VideoSoap by the
way).

You can download all the 8.x (except, I think, the original 8.0 release)
MMCs from the ATi site, http://www.ati.com/support/driver.html, and for that
matter, some of the 7.x versions. However, AFAIK MMC 7.9 is the version
that's recommended for TV Wonders, and I don't know whether MMC 8.x versions
will work with your card..

You only need the CD to install any of ATi's DVD players, which use licensed
software, and hence incur a charge.

I have the ATI TV Wonder too and a Radeon 9700 PRO. If you want the
TV to function properly, stick with the MMC 7.9, however you lose the
DVD Player. With MMC 8.x you get the DVD Player but the TV cature
option does not work.

The best fix is probably to pull out the ATI TV card and give it a
sharp whack on the corner of your desk. :-|

If you order the the 8.1 driver CD from ATI, it comes with and installs the
drivers for the TV Wonder PCI. The card works fine, and I updated to the
latest drivers after installing the 8.1 CD (including the DVD player).

If
When you say "installs the drivers for the TV Wonder PCI," Eric, do you mean
it installed MMC 7.9? It shouldn't. I got one for free from the remains of
ATi support in Europe and, although I had issues with the DVD player that
came with MMC 8.1 (and still do, although I have a workaround. However, I
believe that the issue I have was not a fault but a deliberate inclusion),
installed the correct Catalyst drivers and MMC 8.1.

Yes, I am using MMC 8.1 w/ TV-Wonder and a Radeon 8500LE. I initially
installed the TV-wonder WDM drivers from the 7.9 package and downloaded 8.1
MMC, choosing XP and Radeon 8500 at the ATI site. Everything seemed OK
except the DVD player. You will need to order an 8.1 CD to get an updated
DVD encoder. I ordered the CD, re-installed and now all OK, including DVD.
8.1 MMC also appears to install one more WDM capture driver. Other posters
here indicate that the 8.1 CD includes all WDM drivers for the
TV-Wonder.Only (minor) problem that I have is sound lags video when watching
TV. TV-on-demand corrects the sound sync. Capture seemd OK but haven't done
much...just small amount of analog camcorder captures.
