Turning off Defender

Joseph C Hayes

How does one turn off the program? Completely remove it?
To answer your question "Why would you want to?" Because I do not need it on
my laptop that is not and will not be connected to the internet and I am
tierd of the time wasted telling it no all the time.

Hello Joe,

It helps those answering your questions if you pÑovide your operating system
and service pack information (e.g. Windows XP SP2, Vista SP1) and your
browser with version number (e.g. IE7) . Which language version of Windows do
you have installed?

Oops, I did not realize that there would be a difference between opsys to
remove or turn off Defender. Vista SP1, IE7 and it looks like English that I
am typing in.

Kind of like having to change my cookie settings from prompt to allow
because this web sight is unable to prompt me if I want a cookie set. More
college boy common sense.

Hi Joe,

It is a Big difference.

In XP you're able to unistall WD.

In Vista, you only can turn off Defender. Tools> Options> Real-time
protection options > Uncheck the box.

Also in the same page, Administrator options> Uncheck - Use WindowsDefender
box.

Right, you can type in any language, and have a different language OS.

Good luck

Engel has this correct: Unchecking "use windwos defender" is the way to
disable the program.

In Vista, Windows Defender is a part of the operating system--it is not
separately uninstallable.
