Trying to view a fax (.tif)

When I try to view a fax (.tif) file in IE6 XP Pro SP2 from my sharepoint
site I only see the red X. All other images appear to load fine. It has
worked fine for a long time, this just started. I can right-click the link
and save the file on my desktop then open it with whatever app I associate
the file type with. I am using the MS Office Document Imaging app.

Any ideas?

The image rendering function in IE is limited. It doesn't support TIFF
format currently, and also for CYMK JPEG format.
You may find an ActiveX control to view it if you want, but usually you'll
want to save it then view with shell preview feature.

This has worked for over a year now and continues to work on 6 other machines
in the office. What should happen when I click the link is that the file
should open in the MS Office Document Imaging app or MS Picture and fax
viewer (whatever I associate .tif files with) in the same way a Word doc
opens when you click a link to it.

Hi,
Can you compare the File Types information for TIF/TIFF (Ctrl Panel> Folder
Options> File Types) with another machine which is still opening TIFs the
desired way?

They are identical...

It works fine if I right click and save the file to the desktop and open it
from there. It just won't give me the option to save or open when I click the
fax file name. (xxx.tif)

???????

Hi,
Sorry. I've done some searching, and didn't find anything promising. If the
file associations look OK, I don't know what else to look at.
