Trying to Obtain an IP Address

Hello,
I have a PC that continues to try to obtain an IP address from the server
even though it has an address. Every 6 minutes there is an entry in the
event viewer that it tried and failed to obtain an IP. This machine has a
legit IP and DNS server address when using the ipconfig command as has all
functions needed. I did try a repair install that had no effect. The
machine does take several minutes to boot up but it does find the server an
address. Anything I can look for to correct this problem? XP pro machine
logging into a server 2003 using dhcp.
Thanks For Any Help!

Hi mate can you enter dos "start - Run- cmd" and type ipconfig /all and jot
down everything on the screen. Secondly can you check that DHCP is running
open system information and services ensure DHCP is running. If it is running
stop it and the restart it.
It all points to a DHCP issue ensure your network connection setting are
correct link speed etc.

Its showing 172.20.x.xxx, subnet, DNS, Gateways all have the correct
addresses, but I did just notice that the nortel packet scheduler miniport
has no addresses and the event viewer shows that this mini port cant obtain
an address for physical address xx-xx-xx-xx-xx for Nortel Packet scheduler.
dhcp is enabled auto configure is not enabled and dhcp server is
255.255.255.255. This is the program we use for outside entrance to the
servers but I dont use it here because Im already connected. I have it
laoded to help the outside reps in case there having trouble. This just
started in the past couple of days that it seems to keep trying to get and
address for this program.

Thanks for the Response

I just Uninstalled the Nortel Vpn Program and the errors in event viewer
went away. So I guess that program was trying to get an address even though
it wasnt running. Thank for the tip on where to look!!
