Trying to download Java...installer eror

Im tying to download Java and it says
the windows installer needs to be verified or something. This installation
package could not be opened. Verify that the package exists and that you can
access it, or contact application vender to verify this is a valid windows
application isntaller. I downloaded the windows installer on microsoft page
and still the same message?? I dont knw what else to do? I have xp media
version 2002 on a laptop.
