Due to some software difficulties, I recently had to
reformat my hard drive and reinstall Windows XP
Professional (upgrade from Win XP Home). After going
through the motions, it asked me to activate Windows,
which was expected. However, when I clicked "activate",
it said "Windows is already activated. Click ok to
continue", which perplexed me. I thought, "Oh." and
hit 'ok' thinking that would be the end of it. Instead,
everytime I started Windows, it said the same thing. Now,
at this time, the time on my computer was January 1st,
2002 (for some reason, I couldn't sync with the Microsoft
time server). I fixed that by downloading a program that
syncs with an atomic clock (specifically the one at the
University of Colorado). I'm assuming that confused
Windows into thinking 30 days had passed, and accordingly
locked me out of my computer until I had activated
Window. Stuck, I decided to try again and reinstall
Windows. It stopped, however, and stated that it could
not continue due to a third-party kernel file (the
article id Q327516, which Windows directed me to, was
unavailible). I am almost certain that problem is my own
doing, but I am unsure as to how to fix it. If anyone can
help me fix either of those problems (to which I hope
will have the same effect), I would be very appreciative.
