Trouble sending e-mail

Rick

Are you saying I shouldn't reinstall Micro Trend after I get things squared
away? I paid for it, but if it will cause the problem again I will switch.
Can I install Windows Live Mail without uninstalling Windows Mail or should
I uninstall Windows Live and then install Windows Live Mail? Thanks

Once you get your email squared away, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:
AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Windows Defender does not cause this problem. The most likely culprit

uninstall that antivirus, reboot, then try Windows Mail again.

I am having trouble sending e-mail also. I get my e-mail just fine.
This

So you are saying that an AV program scans when you open the mail not when
it is downloaded? Thanks

G

Gary VanderMolen

That is correct. Unless you want the problem with Windows Mail
to return, do not reinstall Trend Micro. Install one of the two free
antivirus products I recommended below.

Windows Mail cannot be uninstalled. When you install Windows Live
Mail, it will import your WM accounts, settings, and emails.

Also, if you switch to Windows Live Mail, you should be able to
reinstall Trend Micro, since WLM is not as sensitive to interference
from antivirus programs. However, if you do reinstall Trend Micro, be
sure to leave its email scanning feature turned off.

WLM and WM are essentially giving the same error message.
The only possible remaining culprit is Spy Sweeper. You know

I am having trouble sending e-mail also. I get my e-mail just fine. This
problem started April 1, or I didn't notice until then, I downloaded and
installed Vista SP1 on March 30. What is my solution? Thanks

I can receive but cannot send e-mail. Here is the error message that I get.
I've checked all of my settings and they appear to be correct.

I'm not going to relax yet, but I think you found the culprit. I didn't
uninstall Spy Sweeper but just exited it. I didn't remove and reinstall my
accounts. Sent a few messages and everything seems to be working fine NOW.
So lets say, as of now, all is back to fine. So far I do like the setup in
Windows Live Mail. Thanks
PS I'll see if this message sets in the outbox for 15 seconds before
sending.

Also, if you switch to Windows Live Mail, you should be able to

squared away? I paid for it, but if it will cause the problem again
I will switch. Can I install Windows Live Mail without uninstalling

Since the antivirus may have corrupted your mail account,
delete that mail account, restart Windows Mail, then recreate
the account.

If still no joy, I recommend upgrading to Windows Live Mail.

Once you get your email squared away, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:
AVG free edition:

or
Avast free edition:

custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

is Trend Micro antivirus, even though you have it turned off. As

Windows Defender tries to take care of spyware, but it's not known
for doing a very good job at it. You can have more that one
antispyware program installed at a time without problems if you pick
only some that run well with Windows Mail; the two I've been using
for months are:

I am having trouble sending e-mail also. I get my e-mail just fine. This
problem started April 1, or I didn't notice until then, I downloaded and
installed Vista SP1 on March 30. What is my solution? Thanks

:

Have you recently updated yor VISTA to SP1?

the proper server settings, please contact your e-mail service provider.
