Hi I keep getting a lot of Trojans viruses on my computer in various
folders, mainly temp internet files but other places aswell. Should I be
running anything else apart from to virus checkers (Norton and AVG) to
prevent me getting theses like a firewall, and if so which is the best.

Only AVG finds the trojans not norton and I cant tell what internet sites
are giving me theses trojans viruses.

help please, I am running windows xp pro with norton and AVG antivirus and
usingf windows xp firewall at tyhe moment

cheers in advance dave

Hi

Running two anti virus programs at the same time nay cause conflicts and that is why you are getting so many viruses. Disable/uninstall one of them - leave AVG installed!!

try going online to www.antivirus and running housecall, which is a free
online scanner
zonealarm is a good, free firewall.

you should have a virus shield running, which would prevent virii form
attacking
while online.

Hi

Norton seems to cause more problems than AVG does - especially LiveUpdate if you have it enabled.

Most likely they are drive by trojan downloaders as the op says they are in
temp int files folders. These come via websites. Stay off the "seedy"
websites and try a more secure browser like firefox. Also use spybot and its
immunization feature.

Quite a few drive-by DLs can occur on non-seedy sites, too. Some can
even get in without visiting any site at all, similar the blaster and
welchia worms.

When you open spybot on the left hand side should the immunize button. Click
it and then click the immunize button, the install button, and make sure the
check box to stop the hosts file being hijacked is checked.

Aside from the other advice, you should have a firewall running these
days. The one in XP itself will do the job; in Control Panel - Network
Connections. r-click on the icon for the connection to the internet and
take Properties. On the 'Advanced' page check the top box to enable
the firewall. And if you do not have SP1, also click the Settings
button and ensure that NETBIOS is not being allowed access, on ports 135
to 139 - that is where the BLAST worm got in
