Trial Version restriction? or something not configured ...

i too have a new HP with a trial version of Office 2003 Standard (Teachers & Students

i have my account set up (the test settings button reports al okay) and can receive mail oka

however, the NEW button is disabled, and when a received message is selected the REPLY and FORWARD buttons remain disable

any clues as to what i am overlooking (if anything) ??? thanks
