Transferring Files in Vista

Has anybody noticed how Windows Vista takes longer to calculate how long it
will take to transfer a file from one drive to another, than it does to
actually transfer it?! Why can't Vista just get on with the transferring
rather than wasting more tme by telling me how long it will take? Very
annoying!

I've heard here that it IS transferring the file in the background while it is
estimating - it has to transfer something to test connection speed!
