hi
i have outlook on an old laptop (xp) and i need to transfer messages files
and contacts to windows mail
can it be done???
Yes. You have two choices of how to do it: 1. Install Outlook, preferably
version 2003 or more recent, on the machine with Windows Mail. Version
2002 also runs under Vista, but with a few problems. Windows Mail needs
to use part of Outlook to be able to import the .pst file from your old
machine. 2. Transfer the contacts and messages first from Outlook to
Outlook Express on your old machine. Then transfer them from Outlook
Express to Windows Mail.

Bring along the .wab file which will then contain the contacts. After you
copy
the files to a directory on your new machine, make sure they are read-write
instead of readonly before you import them into Windows Mail. If this
import
procedure doesn't bring in the old contacts, click on Tools, then Windows
Contacts. If the toolbar of the contacts window doesn't include an Import
button, right click in the empty space below the right end of this toolbar,
then
click on Customize This Folder, then the triangle, then Contacts, then
Apply,
then OK. Click on Import, then Windows Address Book File (Outlook
Express contacts), then Import, then find the .wab file and click on it.
Click on Close, then close the Contacts window.
