Hi, PA Bear:

I had installed the IME was the same one with that you have shown me, for
accuracy I did as your instruction to uninstall the IME I have now, and then,
in the same environment, re-install the correct one you said. After all, the
problem is still there, I can't get icon, I do not know why. Could you
please do a favor for me to continue to help and teasch me how I can get it.

Thank you so much for your time and help, I am waiting for more of your
instructions.

Did you play with items in the Control Panel? You may need to do
that. I got Chinese win98. Not sure what's in the Control Panel of
other version of win98.

Control Panel?", could you please explain more details about it for me?

Do you have things like text service or ime in your Control Panel?
With win2k or xp, you can change the settings in Control Panel
to add input methods. Win98 can't do that. But I wonder after you
install input methods, maybe something is added to the Control
Panel so you can change its settings to activate the input methods.

Hi, John:

Thnak you so much for your instructions. I see the Icon of "text service"
(no IME, since I had download it) in my Control Panel. Could you please
teach me how I can change its setting to activate the input methods as you
said? Thank you again for your time and help.

I don't know. I have not used an English version of Windows for
quite a long time. I do have the traditional Chinese version of
Win98 and the imes comes with it.

I can give some suggestions. Whether they will work I don't know.

What's in your Text Services? Mine contains keyboard and imes. I
have several imes in there. Usually, after the Windows starts up,
there is an icon in the system tray labelled "EN" for English.
Click on that icon and you can select a different language (if it
is installed).

Sometimes that icon doesn't show up. I then go to "start/run" and
type in "internat" to run "internat.exe". Once this programs is
running, the icon appears in the system tray.

good luck.

oHi, John:

In my "Text Service", just only English Language and Keyboad, no IMES. So I
doubt why it will diffrent with you, since it is the same windows 98, mine is
windows 98 SE(Second edition) English version. I had done to download IME
(Traditional Chinese, Simplefy Chinese, Japanese), but it was just only
installed the "Help" colum of them, no any language pack itself was
installed. If you can futher help, please let me know. I appriciate your
help and your time. Thank you again for your help.

Have you a nice day.

Sounds like you don't have the proper ime installed. There are
different version of win98 for different languages. Mine is
certainly different from yours.

Sorry I can't be of more help. I know it can be done but I don't
have a English win98 system to test it out anymore.
