2.01 File Manager WinFile.exe :)

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP6a File Manager (a.k.a. Winfile.exe)
for Windows NT4/2000/XP/2003

http://ftp.mdgx.com/files/FMNT.ZIP [436 KB]

It still works on XP also, and supports FAT32/NTFS, Long File Names
(LFNs), NTFS compressed folders/files, network/remote drives/partitions,
hidden/read-only/system folders/files, dual pane windows, drag and drop
etc, highly customizable.

If you like it you might also want to try the add-on, "FM Step Up"
(both 32-bit and 16-bit versions available), see link in

Hi Sietse and Bjorn,

I've made the various changes but haven't uploaded new pages yet. Bjorn
gave me this info for winfile.exe a while back:

Found a more recent version (v 4.0.1381.91)
<ftp://ftp2.granit.ru/Microsoft/NT/ServPack4/Year2000/SP/i386/winfile.exe>

That link is dead - I'm now showing:

FILE UTILITIES 2.01 File Manager: Dual pane

Program: WinFile.exe (v 4.0)
Ware: MS OS (NT4/2000/XP/2003)
http://ftp.mdgx.com/files/FMNT.ZIP

Okay?

Says ver. 4.0.1381.318. At least I can say it not the version I
previously reported a problem with (4.0.1371.1),
cf:<http://groups.google.com/[email protected]>

The <FMNT.ZIP> archive contains to copies of winfile. Both are ver.
4.0.1381.318, not ver. 4.0.1381.91 as I found before. One is a hacked
verison, according to text included in the zip:

<copy>
Here are 2 different FM excutables:

- WINFILE.EXE = modified ("hexed") by using the excellent
Resource Hacker tool [freeware]:
http://www.users.on.net/johnson/resourcehacker/
and replaced "ugly" disk, folder + file icons, FM specific
cursors and FM main icon with my own, for improved readability
and ease of use.

- WINFILE.ORI = original file from Microsoft. Contains the "ugly"
(read "primitive") icons + cursors mentioned above. :) Rename it
to WINFILE.EXE and then copy it to your main Windows folder if
you wish to use it instead. [But why would you do that? ;-)]
</copy>

The text file also mentions among other things the FM-STEPUP add-on
I mentioned before. The archive also comes with winfile.hlp +
glossary.hlp, and a bat file to quickly install (copy) the exe and
help files to your windows directory.

Gave it a quick run, looks OK to me...AFAIK....

All the best,
Bjorn Simonsen

Thanks Bjorn. I'll show the *full* file version number after the name.
