touchpad freeware?

R

Robert Kim

Hi, group. I have a Toshiba Satellite 1905-S277 laptop running under
Windows XP. It has a touchpad that I don't use much since I have a mouse
in the USB port. Problem is that my thumb often hits the touchpad and
changes the location of the cursor while I'm trying to type.

Is there freeware or another way to turn off the touchpad temporarily
without permanently disabling it? I do use the touchpad occasional on
business trips but would like to be able to toggle it on and off. TIA

Click Startup tab, uncheck touchpad drivers....

SOS, thank you for the input. I just got off the phone with Toshiba tech
support. Apparently there is NO way to disable the touchpad on my model
laptop! Aaaarrgh! There is no option in the Startup tab, none in Control
Panel, etc.!!! What an awkward design! I can't believe anyone would
forget to put in such a feature! Well, I'll have to just cut off my
thumbs to keep them from brushing the touchpad, I guess. Thanks, again,
for the input.

Thanks, Won. But this does not work on my system. Several calls to
Toshiba verified that the touchpad can't be disabled. I appreciate your
input, though.

You could try to switch the pad off in your BIOS. Right after
starting your computer, you can disable/enable your touchpad in the
menu there somewhere. You may get the BIOS menu with F2 or Esc or
Del, just try it.

I guess they speak the same language as doctors? No Dr. Smith
or Jones,
only Dew-wesoakem Green? I guess that page wasn't in their
manual. It's loose leaf
you know, so prone to being 'Gone With The Wind'.

On some Toshiba that I have seen, there is a BIOS setting to
automatically disable the touchpad if there is an external
mouse but I don't know if this works with USB mouse or just
PS2.

Cut a square of nice textured black plastic from an old slimline CD case.
Round the corners with glasspaper until a neat fit for the touchpad recess.
Lift it back out with some sticky tape or poster-putty to reactivate.
FreeDIYware!!

Thanks, Trevor and Ed H. I think this (or cardboard as Ed suggested) are
my only options.
