mouse and touchpad behaves erratically

I installed windows XP Pro on my Toshiba Satellite 5105
laptop recently. On most applications, the mouse 'clicks'
by itself sometimes when the cursor is over a button. I
don't press enter or left click. This behavior is true
both for the touchpad and the USB mouse.

Also, in a text application, particularly outlook, the
cursor jumps around while typing. (It just did that, going
up to the third line of this message without warning.)

Can anyone help me out?

The forst thing you should do is obtain any driver updates for the laptop
from Toshiba. Laptops have hardware that is somewhat unique to the make and
model. Hopefully, updated drivers may solve your problem. There is also an
issue as to what is enabled and disabled when you have a mouse and a
touchpad active at the same time. To add insult to injury, ther emay be a
"dwell" setting that is enabled and set too short that basically functions
so that if you linger over a clickable button, it gets clicked. Cursor
jumping around may be an indication of obsolete drivers, or irq sharing that
isn't working properly. Tjis occasionally is cured with a BIOS update.
