I own an HP ZX5180us laptop. I inserted both audio and video disc to the dvd
rom; the hardware doesn't respond. I inserted a DVD movie to the dvd-rom,
double clicked the dvd-rom and received the message "Windows cannot read from
the disk. the disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is
not compatible with Windows." But the device status is working properly under
the Hardware properties.
I tried uninstalling the reinstalling the hardware to reset everything and
still received the same message mentioned above. What could cause the
DVD-ROM not working properly?

With all the symptoms, your drive "lasers lens" seen to be failing.
You can try a lens cleaner. Or look at replacing it.
