too many programs on startup

i get a bunch of icons in my desktray on startup. i've looked in the start
folder(inicio) and eliminated the unwanted programs but cannot seem to get
rid of a bunch of stuff i don't immediately need(printer, ATI, cd backup,
etc)

how do i stop them loading in the background every time i bootup?

TIA

Copy the msconfig.exe from a XP machine and use it to view the startup
items. It will list where they are being called from. Run Load or Startup.

If you have a windows 98 machine, copy the msconfig.exe from the Windows/system 32 folder to the same folder on the 2000 machine
Click Start and Run. Type msconfig and hit enter
Select the startup tab. you can remove startup items there. You will have to reboot after doing this

These start from the registry almost al in here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

same place in HKCU.

Always backup the key before you remove anything and be careful that what you delete you KNOW for sure what is being removed. Questionable do not remove it.

Finally it's best to right-click the icon in the system tray and see if it has it's own method of stopping it from starting at boot.
