SLOW: Right after they uploaded and were installed, I rebooted my pc. Now
my pc runs very slow and choppy. To open a file, folder, or drive on my pc,
it takes about 25 to 30 seconds where it used to take only 2 to 4 seconds.
To open a url, it takes about 40 to 60 seconds where it used to take
approximately 5 seconds on the average and 10 seconds max.

CHOPPY: Previously, when I would turn on one of my drives, the flashlight
would smoothly scroll the contents of the drive and the contents of the drive
would be there to view in a few seconds. Now, the flashlight starts and
stops a number of times before it can open the drive and it takes about 30
seconds before the drive will open. When I click on Favorites, it takes
about 30 seconds before the entire list is opened, when it used to take no
more than 2 seconds. As I said, this problem occurred exactly after the
updates were installed and I rebooted.

Can you tell me which update has more likely caused this so I can delete it?

Can anyone contact Microsoft and notify them of this problem?

I downloaded and installed a trial version of Microsoft's new
anti-virus/spyware progams several months ago but I uninstalled it within a
few days because it slowed my pc down to this rate. I received a message
from Microsoft in which they asked me the reason for uninstalling the
program. I told them that it was because it slowed my pc down to a crawl.
Now the updates have done it again.

I posted a message in WIndows XP General. I was surfing the internet on AOL
while the PC was updating, allowed it to restart for the changes to take
effect, and immediately after, I can no longer connect to the internet on
that machine.

Certainly would want to know what's going on.

To resolve the problem, I did a System Restore to a restore point that my pc
made yesterday. My pc works fine and fast again and I turned off Automatic
Updates until the problem gets resolved. I have a number of other
anti-virus/worm/spyware/malware/grayware programs and Sygate firewall running
so I'm not concerned about a virus that will probably not attack my pc. If
someone comes up with a better solution, I'd like to hear it.

This kind of thing happens all the time.(well, maybe not ALL the
time,just a couple times a year)
I have an XPSP2pro(which I use for testing) that I update first before
updating my work pc(they are identical).
My best advice to both of you is found on my pages(see below).

Hi Name. Thanks for urls. When the updates caused my pc to bog down
yesterday, I ran McAfee Stinger, Trend Micro, AdAware, Spybot, Microsoft
Malicious Software Removal Tool, Microsoft AntiSpyware, CWShredder, Bit
Defender, and I ran PC onPoint and RegSeeker. AdAware found only negligible
risks, RegSeeker cleaned out my registry, and Pc onPoint cleaned out some
file associations, application paths and a file association, all as usual. I
looked into the sites you suggested but the programs/help they offered was
the same/similar to what I already have. The CrapCleaner site said that the
program is free but after it ran, I received a message that said that I had
to pay for it in order for it to remove the few errors that it found.

Again, thanks for your help . . . it was very much appreciated.

=============================

To tell the truth, I don't remember the name of the site from which I
originally downloaded it. I usually download programs from links that are
provided. CC found many errors but wouldn't correct them. I found a site
where CC was freeware and I downloaded and ran ver 1.30.310. The second time
I ran it, it found only a few cookies and temporary files, and I'm a little
confused about that.

Unless I'm misunderstanding you, I'd say that's the way it's supposed to
work. The first time it ran, it cleaned out all the builtup crap in your
computer: old cookies, websites visited, temporary files, etc. Think of it
as giving you a clean slate.
The second time you ran it, it cleaned off everything that had been written
to the clean slate SINCE the first time you ran it.

===============================

I don't think that's what happened. I use RegSeeker and PC onPoint
regularly and they clean things that are no longer needed by my pc. Looking
through what CC offers, I have the same capabilities with RegSeeker and PC
onPoint.

I just finished a complete search of my pc for
viruses/trojans/worms/adware/malware/grayware, etc, using RegSeeker, PC
onPoint, TrendSysClean, Bit Defender, Norton Anti-Virus, McAfee Stinger,
CWShredder, a-squared, Microsoft AntiSpyware and DOSclean. I ran the
programs both in regualar mode and safe mode. Did you know that NBC
WeatherBug is spyware? It's what DOSclean found, and it also found that
ErrorKiller and Spyware Interrogator have files that it considered
potentially harmful to my pc.

Since I've done all I could to find a problem within my pc and have found
nothing (about 15 hrs running programs and seeking advice), I believe that
there's a compatibility issue with Microsoft's newest updates and my pc.
Since this is a very rare phenomenum, I may never find the reasons for it and
will have to do without the update(s) that cause my pc to run extremely slow
and choppy.

For CCleaner, make sure you downloaded it from the correct site and delete
the old one. I use it on all my computers and I know it's 100% free. If you
downloaded one that's making you pay to use it, then delete it immediately,
it probably is carrying malware since it has been modified.

I did, SugarD, thanks. As I said above, though, it removed only a few
Temporary Files and cookies, about 8 total.

KB911280 is most likely the cause. There are known issues with that one
- it interferes with 3rd party logons, RAS, dial up, PPP connections,
broadband, etc. If you install the others and not this one, you should
be ok.

KB916281 is documented to interfere with QuickBooks.

Similar Issue: after the last round of updates (may and june
06) I have moderate problems with access from internet
keyboard (logitech iTouch - original model). Driver version
is the last known -2.22. The core of the problem is that
windows Ids it as MS natural, and not logitech, then issues
two conflicting resources with that of the motherboard.

I never had restart on cold bootup until after the last
update stack was processed.

Perhaps someone can pinpoint an update that could be pulled
in order to resolve my issue. I have all applicable updates.
