Time on PC's keeps changing

Fran

We share a LAN with another company. We have our own Active Domain
server and we are using static IP addresses (the other company has the
DHCP server.) When I started working on this I noticed that all the
clocks on the PC's were off by 43 minutes. I changed from DHCP to
static IP and set up our AD server to be a time server for our domain.
For a while, all the clocks changed to reflect our server's accurate
time. However I have noticed now that the time has changed back to the
old server's time.

So...I have two questions on this:
1) How can I insure that OUR domain is getting its time from OUR
domain server?

2) What other influences could the other network be having on our
systems?

I'm at a loss right now. Any help is appreciated!

Hi Fran.

No one else has answered yet, so here is a link to an article that may help that
explains how the W32 time service works in Windows 2000 including troubleshooting
methods.

I have never dealt with the problem you have but basically this is how it works. The
pc synchronizes its time with the logon domain controller which gets it's time from
the pdc fsmo dc for the domain which gets it's time from the root pdc fsmo if their
is more than one domain in the forest. So your pdc fsmo needs to have accurate time
and the other domain controllers [if any] need to have proper connection/replication
with it. --- Steve
