TIFS and TGA'S Thumbnails and Previews in Windows Explorer

I had lost the ability to view images in thumbnails and Previews in W.
Explorer. The thumbnails showed icons and the previews were either black or
showed No Preview Available. Steve Parry's
link(http://www.gwynfryn.co.uk/downloads/thumbnail.reg) fixed my jpegs and
psd's, but not tifs and tga's. All the threads and most of the KB articles
refer to jpegs. KB192573 gives a list of other file types which can be
treated in the same way, but tifs and tga's are not included. KB292499 refers
to jpegs and gifs, and KB243401 jpegs only. It seems that one should be able
to treat tifs and tga's in the same manner, but I'm afraid to do so when any
reference to them is so conspicuously absent from the threads and the KB
articles. Afraid to mess with the registry. A link like the Parry link which
would do it for me would be most welcome...:)...but failing that, I would
like to be assured that the procedure in those 3 KB articles is applicable to
ALL image files---it SEEMS to be implied---but then why weren't at least tifs
listed in KB 192573?

"but tifs and tga's are not included..." There is a good reason for this. TIF and their cousins can be such that Windows Explorer cannot render them consistently. Although the Kodak Imaging that comes with Windows 2000 can Windows Explorer cannot. Just because you don't get a thumbnail with tiff in Windows Explorer means nothing. If you have the correct entry in the registry similar to how jpg and gif have their entries you've done all you can do. If the image doesn't show it's a problem with the tiff not your system.

1. I am talking about tifs which displayed image thumbnails for years, so
Windows 2000 can Windows Explorer do handle them fine. Never had a problem
with any of my tifs.

2. I had NOT 'corrected' the tif and tiff entries according to the Knowledge
Base article yet because of the reasons mentioned---was basically asking if
it's OK to do that as I am afraid to do anything to the registry that isn't
specifically stated in a KB article.....
