word keeps trying to edit my numbering. This has wasted 20 minutes. It is
wrong, I am right, why won't it just let me have the numbers I want?

Even this website has wasted 10 minutes for me to complain.

I'm going back to Wordpro.

If you want to number something manually instead of using auto numbering, be
sure you have cleared the check box for "Automatic numbered lists" on the
AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect Options. You may also need
to clear "Format beginning of list item like the one before it."
