This is absurd

M

Mark A. Sam

I really, really, really, really, really, really tried hard not to criticize
microsoft, becuase I know some of you worship Bill Gates as your God, but
what just happened is beyond absurd. The world is in heap big trouble with
Microsoft at the helm of the software industry.

A little while ago, I got a notice that an update was ready. I didn't know
why I received it, becuase my system was set to receive Automatic updates,
and the caption on the notification said "Automatic Update". First what is
automatic about an update that asks me? Someone out to knock Bill Gates on
the head and ask, "Is anyone in there?". But that isn't the problem, just a
prelude. I'm really the idiote for saying yes to the update. It was an
Internet Exporer v7 update, or so it said. I said yes, then it asked me if
I accept the license, and of course I did. The next thing I saw was that
Internet Explorer V7 was being installed ( I had it installed over a month
ago). Then it said it was uninstalling a previous version and I thought, Uh
Oh!!!!!! And rightfully so. I was asked to restart my computer and
naturally I couldn't ignor that request, becuase it kept coming back and
bugging me. So I said yes, and nothing happened. So I tried to restart and
it wouldn't. Finally after a several attempts I opened the task manager and
dumped a bunch of programs then was able to restart. After I restated, I
opened up IE and went to open a new tab and there weren't any. HUH, I
asked myself? No tabs? I like tabs, what happened? This is what happened,
the update uninstalled version 7 and installed version 6.

Do I need to say any more? I can't, becuase there is no description
suitable to describe this, except, HUH!!!!!

I think Microsoft need some updating of personnel, starting with Bill Gates
and continuing until the last programmer is booted. Keep the cleaning crew
and the cafeteria staff.

let's get this in perspective:

1) You installed a BETA product
2) You complain when you are using your computer and it alerts you that
it's about to install updates while you are using your computer
3) The update is for a BETA product
4) Your BETA test machine doesn't perform properly

What part of BETA don't you understand - if you are not prepared to deal
with problems then don't run BETA software.

If you are prepared to deal with problems associated with BETA software
you should have posts your statements as "I've tried to install IE7 BETA
update and I'm having problems".

Your first paragraph makes you appear to be trolling.

What's a beta? I wasn't informed that version 7 is a beta. I was available
on the Microsoft site as the new version. No beta involved.

You are correct, MS has passed IE7 on to final version and onto automatic
updates as critical. I'm not going for it, till more of the bugs are worked
out.

Internet Explorer 7 was only released last week. If you installed it
over a month ago, you installed a beta version of it. Probably called
"Release Candidate".
In case you want to know what happened...
- you have set automatic updates to ask you before installing or
downloading. To change the setting to fully automatic, go to Control
Panel, Automatic Updates and select the first choice (in bold). That
choice is set by default, so you must have changed it at some point in
time.
- as you had installed a beta version of IE7, it had to be installed
before the final version of IE7 could be installed. That meant that
after the removal, your system was back to IE6.
- The window that asked you to restart did say automatic updates in the
dialog window and kept popping up. That was an update that is related to
IE7, but not the setup program for IE7 (that is a different window and
has a Restart button as well after it's done). When you clicked Restart
Now and then proceeded to kill tasks, you effectively killed the IE7
setup program.
Hence your computer ended up in a state where the beta of IE7 had been
removed, but the final version had not been installed, because you
didn't give the setup program the chance to.
If you want IE7 back, download it from

If you're talking about IE 7, it needs a search function for the WEB PAGE
CURRENT. I don't always want to search freekin' yahoo, I want to search the
page I'm on somtimes.

The page where you downloaded your previous version of IE7 was a different
page. A month ago there were clear warnings about installing a beta product.

The internet explorer download will first remove IE7 beta if you are using
that (you were). Then after a reboot, IE7 final should be installed. Then
another reboot.

Now, if you cleared out any temp files before you rebooted (many cleaning
programs can be set up to do just this) the files needed to restart the
install into IE7 final were likely deleted. Therefore, you will again have
IE6.

Try to reinstall IE7 final again. Reboot when told to. Don't wait. Don't
clean out any temp files.

One month ago the IE7 RC (release Candidate or beta) was on the same page.
You did <*NOT*> install the final version one month ago. It didn't exist.
Now it does.

You have to know what you are installing by reading web pages <*prior*> to
downloading something. Had you read the pages, you would have learned that
the software you were downloading/installing was not a final version.

Kerry,

There was no Beta warning when I installed V.7. I wouldn't have installed
it. If the page wasn't the same page as I posted, then it was similar. It
was on the Microsoft homepage. But regardless, what do I know? And why
does it matter that it is a beta. The update said it was a V7 update and it
installed v6. It's a little backward. I wasn't told it would do this, but
the initial message said it was an v7 update, like a simple update.

This is an analogy of what happened.

You purchase brand new Steel Belted Radial tires for your car. Previously
you had non-radial tires and they were worn bald. The dealer calls and
says, come in and we will fill them with nitrogen. This will give them
longer life. So you take them in and when you pick up your vehicle, the old
tires that you just replaced are back on your car.

Now you may argue that IE is free, so that isn't a good analogy, and I'll
argue that you shouldn't pay for any Microsoft junk.

Toggle the menu bar by pressing and releasing ALT. It's right there in
the Edit menu where it used to be in IE6.

I am right with you 100% "This is Absurd!) And the Bully (MVP) that responded
didn't even know that IE 7 is not in Beta. I have been having nothing but
problems with the critical update of IE 7. Installed it and uninstalled it 3
different times. Lucky for me I have a large External backup drive and did a
drive copy before each try. The thing is a piece of junk as it stands. You
Micorsoft people think you are so far out. How about your selling out to the
Chinese just to make a buck. You make me sick.

However, I do like Windows XPPro SerPk2! So far, it seems bullet proof. I
don't like bullys. Pegasus, get a life. Go kick a dog or something. Its
obvious you walk on the backs of others. Oh yeah Pegasus, I don't have a
question.
