Several years ago I was using Opera and when I first tried it the tabbed
window, I thought it was great, but after using it for a while like that, I
just stopped. Just don't care for it too much.

Really? I love opera...
Ive been using the InternetExplorer beta and I still think Its pale in
comparison to Opera. I wont list my issues here but the GUI and functionality
is minimal (other than their new phishing utility) .
Once you get used to the mouse gestures in Opera its difficult to use
windows again and tabbed browsing just makes for easier mouse movements so
you're not throwing your cursor all over the destop to navigate windows (Im
not a TAB/Ctrl+Shift person) tabs are unnecesary though. Opera demonstrates
this with the wheel mouse gesture. you can open any page by pressing the
wheel and turning it, I use it so much I turned off the tab bar.
If IE would just put some more effort into the GUI and stop complicating
security so much Id be happier.

Why use an application like
Outlook to do scheduling and email, etc when you can have these tools built
into the desktop and available all the time? Perhaps some of the TCM's are
innovators and will come up with new ways of using their PC?

I agree, why cant microsoft allow a user freindly theme/desktop editor? its
really like editing a picture in MS paint anyway. You have to be a TCM to
want to alter
system configurations.
I checked out windows blinds(premium version) and wont let you change
anything until you buy it (or download the free version with all the same
themes)
when I tried to apply a theme it stalled my system and windows takes 15
minutes to load. Im not sure what it changed or how to fix it (since i
uninstalled it) but since microsoft is jumping on the mp3 player bandwagon
why not eat up all the little tweak markets too so this crap doesnt happen?

I'm sorry to hear that Brand. I have been running the trial version of
WindowBlinds for several weeks now...really, no problems. I can download and
use third party skins...must have twenty or thirty of them now and it
doesn't slow my computer down a whit.

I've seen analyses concluding that WindowBlinds uses no more, and probably
less resources than any of the other skin changers...AND no more than
Windows itself!!

And I even ran across an article that suggested that the default XP theme in
Windows XP is an older Windowblinds version and skin. I can't say for sure.
But I am buying the enhanced version (v.5) and if twenty dollars is too much
for you then I think there's even an earlier version (v4.5) that's totally
free of charge.

No connection, just futzin' along, singin' a song, day by day...

Couple of thoughts...DOS was a pretty good menu system if that's all you
want from an OS. Why did we all move to Windows...and Win98...and Win
XP...and next will be Vista? Most of what has been added has nothing to do
with a menuing systyem. And most of what has been added was added to
"prettify" the interface.

And how did all that happen? The programmers...and the execs...at M$ just
kept tweakin' and futzin' and fiddlin'... Granted not all of what has
been changed is useful or even attractive...take the search dog for
instance. Anyone know of a good kennel? But hardly any of it was changed
just for the sake of utility.

And Vista? hey, Vista is just taking its clues from the ...skinners. After
all who really needs transparancy? Any of you guys losing productivity due
to a lack of transparent menus or windows?

Good Point...

Technical Computer Masturbators [TCM's] do proliferate in these
newsgroups.

They'd rather tweak, fiddle and futz -- rather than do useful work on the
computer.

Remember the folks who would spend hours just watching their
screensavers -- and changing them continuously?

Another Good Argument for NOT proliferating rinky-dink, 3rd Party
add-ons and screw-ins from fly-by-night vendors in XP or Vista [when we
have it].

IF it's a worthwhile feature for consumers...

PUT IT IN THE OS...

Where it can be properly INTEGRATED By MICROSOFT.

Better reason: The desktop is basically a menu. If you're spending much
time looking at it, you're not using the computer. You're behaving like a
patient that's just undergone a lobotomy. Animating the desktop is as
dumb as having a dozen waiters sing happy birthday to you at a chain
restaurant.

DW its not cost, I always try a program before I buy it and it failed me, its
not a burden to my cpu or ram its configured my system files so that even
AFTER UNINSTALLING the changes it made to explorer and wallpaer remain.
uninstalling it doesnt remove any files or folders apparently, just some
reggies.
