The Windows Installer

Every time I switch my computer on I get a pop-up telling me that the Windows
installer is trying to instal something called PhotoGallery. It cannot
proceed without the CD-ROM but the thing is, I dont have a CD-ROM called
PhotoGallery and I dont know how to stop the Windows Installer from trying
to instal it every time I switch on my computer. To sort it out temporarily
I have to click on Cancel three times to make it go away but I really would
like it to stop doing it.

I have had my computer for about three years and this annoying pop-up has
been making a pest of itself for the past 3 or 4 weeks. I have all the
firewalls and cyber protection that you would expect on a home computer and I
regulary do a disk clean up and defrag my hard drive once a month. I have
tried uninstall/remove but it is not in there. Where else can I look to get
rid of this pest?

Photo Gallery is connected with HP printer software. The best solution
is to put your HP printer cd in the drive and let it install whatever
it wants.

If you don't have this cd, then use the Windows Installer Cleanup
Utility with the understanding that you won't be using Photo Gallery.

I have been online chatting to a technician from Hewlett-Packard about the
PhotoGallery thing. They said that Photogallery was not an HP product.

I clicked on the Clean Up MSI link that you provided. I am flying in the
dark now because I do not know enough about computers to know what that link
actually does or how it works.

I might just go to System Restore and put everything back the way it was
because I also did stuff to my computer under the instruction of the
HP-computer technician and I am unsure of the ramifications of my actions.

And the annoying little tic named PhotoGallery is still wasting space on my
computer.

Very amusing that the HP tech didn't think PhotoGallery came from their
software. I've seen it on many machines where I've installed HP
printers.

I think your System Restore idea is probably the best one for you.

Just in case you are even looking back this far I have finally worked out the
problem. I updated to Windows 7 from Windows 6 and the HP software got lost
somehow and kept on trying to up date PhotoGallery. All I had to do was log
on to HP and search for updates, which I found. When they had been installed
everything started running as smooth as a Swiss watch. You were also right
about PhotoGalley being an HP product, the technicians at HP did not get a
very good rating from me because they didn't even know their own products.

I'm so glad to hear you got this sorted. Thanks for taking the time to
let me know.
