the *search results* window appears

S

when i click on any folder that i have on desktop, the *search results*
window appears. if i right click and select *open* the folder,it opens
correctly. i dont know or remember anything i changed, i noticed this
after son played *command & conquer* for a hour. i googled this &
checked over some settings but i dont see anything about this...Oh,
thought i might mention i have earthlink cable for isp,4yrs, and i
installed there free *protection control center* couple weeks ago just
to check out, ran it and a Trojan browsa32 came back. of course i run
MS anti-spy,ad-aware,spybot,avg,stinger couple times a week and they
didnt find this, also now get no hits at ad-aware or spybot. it did
slow this Dell4600/512 down a touch,maybe 5-10% but i believe a good
trade off.,,,,,,Thanks group, Jim S./[email protected]

Hi Jim,

Have a look at this MSKB article:

Search Companion Starts If You Double-Click a Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321186/en-us

As an alternative to manually editing the registry, you cuold d/load and run
Doug Knox's folder_open.vbs which "Fixes the problem where Search or Command
Prompt opens when double clicking a folder"
http://dougknox.com/xp/scripts_desc/xp_folder_open.htm

You may receive a warning from your Antivirus program regarding the .vbs
file possibly being an unsafe or malicious file.......there is nothing
malicious about Doug Knox's .vbs files, they are safe to d/load and run.

Regards,
