The ratio of windows XP Pro client to a windows 2000 file server

Hi
we are geting an new building and i have been asked if we need a new file
server to help with the extra 150 clients
at present i have 350 clients runing to 2 file servers which are poweredge
2600 from dell dos any one know if there is a basic ratio fo this

You need to know a LOT more about what the users will be doing on the
server, what size files, how often, if they are on 100 or 1000 base
connections, if the server is Single, Dual, or Quad CPU, how much RAM
the server has, how many drives it has in the array they will be
accessing, do you have any joined NIC's (port trunking) or just a single
port, switched network or hub, etc...

This is not a question we can answer here. Your best bet is to set up and
run Performance Monitor on your existing servers for some period of time (at
least a week), then see if you're hitting any walls caused by congestion of
your existing servers. It may well be that the servers aren't being fully
loaded or utilized and you don't need to expand, or it may be that an
upgrade (memory, faster NIC, etc) may serve you needs, or you may need to
add a server.
