The number of fields from your currently selected table or query exceeds the macimum width in <datab

I have a table with 145 fields. I want to create a continuous form with each record occupying one
row and a horizontal and vertical scrollbars. I select the table, click on create and click on the
Multiple Items icon on the ribbon. I then get the error message in the subject line.

It then goes on to say it will create the form without any fields and to add the fields manually. If
I then select all of the fields and drag them to the form Access goes wild. It complains about a
lack of memory (even though it is around 100MB on a 2GB system. finally it displays the form but as
you scroll to the right the fields are not defined correctly and it is useless.

I checked the Office 2007 specifications at:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HA100307391033.aspx

And it talks about over 700 controls on a form.

Is there another way of doing this? I would like a simple form of rows and columns that the user
can scroll through and make changes. Preferable the first three columns could be locked so they
don't scroll. All of the fields are text and there isn't any validation needed on their contents.

It would be trivial in Excel but automating an Excel spreadsheet is not an option.

What am I missing?

Stewart,

I THINK what Access is TRYING to say is that you are exceeding the maximum
form width which is 22". However, the real concern is why does yur table
have 145 fields in it. Sounds like you have committed spreadsheet with an
Access table.

Not really sure how to advise getting around this... perhaps subforms but
that would still be tricky getting them all to move in unison...

Is the maximum form width physical or logical. Is the 22" limit the size of the visible form or of
the scrollable area of the form.

The specifications say:
Form or report width 22 in. (55.87 cm)
Section height 22 in. (55.87 cm)

Yet you can effective have an unlimited number of rows in a form as long as the physical (display)
space is 22" or less high.

I am not looking to have all of the fields visible at once -- only a dozen or so. The actual
physical width of the form on the screen is less than 15".

You are correct about committing spreadsheet. I need to provide the equivalent of a spreadsheet of
text fields for review and editing and automating Excel is not an option.

I wonder if the limitation is in the form or in the wizard that is trying to create the form. I
could try creating the form programmatically.

The funny thing is there are only one or two thousand rows.

Stewart,

I would say it is definitely the wizard's default but it also the forms So
if you are using the wizard and the wizard decides the form will be more
than 22" after completion, I would except an *error*. Are trying to add all
145 fields and only show certain ones? Then I would suggest your option is
to try programmatically.
