The instruction at "0x00000001" referenced memory at "0x00000001".

I'm on SP4 and have all critical updates installed via Windows Update.
Lately I'm getting a lot of these errors involving svchost.exe:
Application popup: svchost.exe - Application Error : The instruction at
"0x00000001" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be
"read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program

When I click OK a bunch of services have died: EventSystem, Irmon, Netman,
NtmsSvc, RasMan, SENS and TapiSrv.

This started around the time that the scrollbars in IE got screwed up by a
rollup update. Is this a regressive bug? I know it was supposed to be
fixed in SP2, now it's back

Does anybody else have this, and is there a fix?

No, I don't think so. I'm running Norton corporate. Liveupdate checks
every day and my definitions are current. Periodically I run Housecall,
just to doublecheck. I also run Adaware and Spybot frequently. The system
is clean. But yet ....

Okay, well then.
do this..
Start
Run...
"type" SFC /SCANNOW <enter>
"type" CHKDSK /R (infers/F) <enter>
answer "Y" for yes and restart
I will take about 30 minutes.
Reboot, take two aspirin, and call me if you still have any
problems, then.

Thanks Don,

SFC replaced a whole bunch of Thinkpad modem files because they had a bad
signature. It just so happens that it was usually the svchost that was
running the TapiSrv that died. Let's see what happens.

Chkdsk didn't find anything wrong.
