i'm getting this error in my event viewer system log

i'm on XP. The bootup has become very slow and gives me
and event 51 warning. Then if i try to analyze the disk i
get the error ID 7 source disk "The device,
\Device\Harddisk0\D, has a bad block."

i can't find Event ID 7 in the ms help anywhere

help!

I had that kinda error before - had some problems with infinite loop and my
ram around the same time - all probs are gone now - did a lot of things tho
including rma`ing my ram as it was def faulty. Go into the device and seek
out the IDE controllers you may be able to set them back to UDMA mode and
thats it - or you may find it keeps timing out.

i'm not very technical so i don't understand everything
you say , however i do get a timeout warning in the event
log when the system is booting. The system hangs for ages
on the XP splash screen that appears on startup so it
takes about 3 mins to boot instead of say 30 seconds.

"The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within
the timeout period." so yep IDE controllers. I'll try and
set them UDMA whatever that means!

hmmm i managed to set my secondary ide controller to DMA
(is that the same thing) and it seemed to work fine for a
while then the errors came back. I have no idea what
RMA'ing my RAM means i'm afraid. Thanks for your help
though
