The case of the disappearing GIFs after installing Windows XP SP2

I recently noticed that on most of my Web pages (IE6 SP2) the gifs are not
being displayed. I've read through all of the threads trying to find a
solution, but most of the solutions offered have been tried and failed, and
some of them are downright dangerous (I AM NOT CHANGING MY REGISTRY!). I've
come to the conclusion that SP2 has somehow screwed up yet another function
of my computer. Why doesn't everyone see the common thread here? I can't
believe that we are all running in circles trying to fix something that
Microsoft has broken AGAIN. I've written MS and will let everyone know when
I get back a reply.
