I've just been checking out the find-a-drug site, unfortunately it's not mac compatible yet so I cant download it myself but I did want to say thank you to all of you who donate your PC time to this.
I'm an information researcher, I havent been able to work since a car accident last year but I still do research for family & friends & I have just had to tell someone I care about very much that there is a very high chance that he has cancer. There is still a possibility that it might be something less serious but unfortunately all of the non serious disorders that can cause this symptom cause significant pain & generally a number of other highly unpleasant symptoms, none of which he has. Normally there is a 25% chance that this symptom is caused by a life threatening condition & a 17% chance that it is cancer. But his lack of other symptoms eliminates almost all of the alternatives. & cancer is the only disorder that specificaly list this symptom without pain as the only initial symptom. I have checked every medical database I know, specialist journels & public medical websites. Obviously I didn't give what is just a personal opinion but I am estimating that there is aproximately a 75-80% chance that he has either cancer, or the most likely alternative, which is a progressive & degenerative disorder also with no cure. He is young, an athelete who has spent the last year training in hopes of making the NZ team, & has just reached that age where he has started talking about wanting to 'meet the right girl & settle down'.
I have had to give all sorts of people, including family members, bad news before & I always hate it. But I've never had to tell a 'family member' that there's a high probability that he has cancer. It's different & makes me feel sick. I so hope I'm wrong. At least I've convinced him to go & see a doctor about it. If I believed in a God I'd be praying to be wrong.

I'm sorry to hear that cirianz, that musn't be a nice thing to have to do :( Hopefully a doctor will be able to clarify this and it may be treatable depending on the stage?

Hopefully the FAD program will find some information that will be useful to people over the coming years!

I'm sorry to hear that :( I mean it in the best possible way when I say I hope you are wrong.

It's stories like these that really make us realise the importance of FaD

I have been in similar situation once and I can tell you it was the most difficult time in my life. Somebody has to do it. One has to be brave and I have all the respect for you.

I am crunching not for the fun of it or for competition but I am in it because I lost my father to cancer and my son is a Type I diabetic. Both are part of FaD, let just hope one of the crunching computer finds the cure. So many can benefit, if not tomorrow, may be day after tomorrow.

My sympathies are with you cirianz and I admire your strength.

Sometimes life sure does throw us a few curve balls.
