text goes fuzzy when background is dark...

Hi

I have a 19" Trinitron monitor getting on for approx 8 years old.

When my monitor displays a dark image ie grey text on a black or dark blue
background, the corners of the screen become very fuzzy. Any text near these
areas display a sort of motion blur with a rapid shimmering. As soon as the
background is lighter the fuzzyness goes and the text near the screen
corners become pin sharp again.

Ive recently upgraded my whole system apart from the monitor so I know its
not the graphics card.

Any idea what would cause this problem?

Thanks.

Here'a a 1Mb Monitor test download, whether it will help or not
don't know

http://www.brothersoft.com/utilities/miscellaneous/monitortest_20764.htm

8 Years is a good innings for any TV or monitor and would imagine th
tube's emission is way past it's best, tube rejuvention or clean an
balance may be useful and can give extra life but can not b
gauranteed

Tube rejuvenator or clean & balance usually takes about 10 minute
on a CRT booster machine, what the clean & balance does is t
clean the cathode electrodes and balance the RED, Green & Blu
guns so their characteristics are similar so that the greyscale stay
remains reasonable

One test you can do is to view a black and white image to see if th
greyscales are ok

To be sure would it not be better to try a different monitor or tr
the monitor on another computer...at least we are isolating th
problem
