Text box in a table

For a form where individuals are inputting descriptive text, I have made a
table with 2 columns: one for the before, one for the after.

In the table cells I have inserted text boxes from the Control Toolbox
toolbar, but I can't get word wrap to turn on. I've both resized the text
box and changed settings in the properties (word wrap is set to "true"). Any
ideas?

Beyond word wrap, I'm hoping that it's also possible to have the text boxes
autosize vertically within the table so that as people write more
information, both the text box and the table row will grow.

If others can advise another way to create a form that I can retrieve the
data for easy export to an access database, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks,
S

What's the purpose of the text box, an item in the drawing layer of the
document, which is not going to behave as you want? Why not simply use the
table itself?
Don't use the control toolbox, use the forms toolbar to insert form fields
in the table cells.

Graham,

I didn't realize that when I inserted the textbox into the table that it
wasn't then taking on the cell's shape while also providing a text entry
point when I protect the document. I can see now that the active x objects
are more drawing objects.

In all honesty, what I want to develop is a form for electronic distribution
to users in Word with some parts available for editing and other parts
frozen. At optimum, the form should have the functionality of the web forms
that I can develop in InfoPath.

In years past, we've experimented with both Word and Excel as templates.
Some people reply in paragraph form, others use bullets. I can use the form
fields to enter text easy enough, and this guarantees that I'll be able to
extract the data out of the form once they send it back, but in doing so I
limit users' abilities to respond concisely in a manner that they deem
appropriate.

InfoPath's Rich text box gives functionality to the people filling out the
form so they can format text, add bullets, etc. Do I have options if I want
to do the same thing in Word?

Thanks,
S

If you are going to use a Word form, you will have to live with its
limitations.

You can use section breaks to create unprotected sections, but you are still
limited in what you can do in such sections without the use of macros and
that creates a whole new world of issues.

You may be able to achieve what you want with macrobutton fields, leaving
the form unlocked, but that will probably make it harder to recover the
data - http://www.gmayor.com/Macrobutton.htm
