Text Box Lines

I currently have a form done in Word with lines in a text box so that when my
text wraps to the next line, my text is always underlined. If I want to
replace text in the box, I select all the text and hit the delete button.
The problem is that my lines also delete. Is there a way to 'lock' my lines
in place so they stay if I delete all text? Thanks for any help.

The formatting of the text is stored in the paragraph mark following the
text. When you select all the text, do not include the paragraph mark. To see
the mark, press Ctrl+Shift+8 (above the letters, not the numeric keypad).
Delete only your text and type in the new text. This will keep your
formatting.

I hope this helps,

Deleting all the contents in a "container" usually deletes the formatting as
well. Word applies the Normal style to text (or rather to the blank
paragraph), which obviously means that custom formatting will be lost.
Character styles applied may remain but their formatting is usually
overridden (not sure why this happens).

If you have a single line of text, using a table cell with a bottom border
is an easy workaround.

Alternatively, create a proper Word form. As you design the form, you can
apply the desired formatting; after you've protected it, you cannot delete
the formatting although you can delete the text of the form field.
