How Secure is your system ?

Are you confident your AntiVirus software is blocking
malware entering your pc ?

To demonstrate what happens if your system is attacked by
malware, we use the harmless test virus "eicar" which was
developed by the European institutes for computer anti-
virus Research (EICAR) for test purposes.

You can find more information about the test virus
directly on the EICAR website.

http://www.eicar.org/anti_virus_test_file.htm

The "eicar" test virus is absolutely harmless and cannot
damage your computer.

Please click on this button to download the test virus:

Heres Symantecs write up on this,it will detect and
remove it as a virus but will explain its a testing file
on their link which is here :

Hello Andy,

Trend 2005 blocks them all!

Bill Sanderson

We had, early on, a brief discussion about creating some perhaps similar
test mechanism for Microsoft Antispyware--something independent of the
program UI, ideally, that would let you know whether real-time protection
was in effect.

Not sure whether it'll happen, or what form it might take, but I like the
idea of having an independent check for basic functionality.

Thanks Tom nice to know its not just Norton thats
blocking it.Ive tested it on Jordi Bosveld's site (
http://virusscan.jotti.org/ ) and its being detected by
these:

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Found EICAR-Test-File

F-Prot Antivirus Found EICAR_Test_File

BitDefender Found EICAR-Test-File (not a virus)

Like Bill says it would be nice to have something to test
spyware with maybe MS are too busy with Longhorn and the
new IE , hopefully though they will have security in mind
when they are released to prevent similar problems.
