Test Account Settings OK, will not send/recieve, no error message

I have set up a Outlook 2003 client on a PC running XP SP2 that previously
used Eudora 6.2 with no problems.

I migrated the mail and settings from Eudora, before removing Eudora from
the system.

The "Test Account Settings" works (all ticks).
I can ping the mail server, and the mail server name resolves.

When I click "send/recieve" nothing happens, no error is generated.
I have stopped all A/V, and firewall services, still no joy.

Any ideas anyone?

Cheers - Chris

What type of account?
Is there actually mail on-line to collect?
