tcp/ip udp problems

My home network of a winxp Pro machine (with Service pack
1), a win2000 laptop, and a win98 2nd edition machine
works just fine under tcp/ip. I can transfer files, etc
etc no problems. However when it comes to game playing,
the winXP machine will not connect to any of the other
machines. It fails the udp with a WSAECONNREFUSED message.
Any Suggestions?

I am having exactly the same troubles with XP. I bought
a screaming fast new PC, only to lose all gaming
connectivity when I installed service pack 1. I havent
found a simple solution to the multiplayer problem with
XP SP1 other than returning the system back to the pre-
SP1 working conditions.

If it were not for the idiots and their viri, we wouldn't
have any troubles. I am eager to get this resolved also.
I wish you luck.

We tried a friends machine on the same network, also
running WinXP pro SP1, it worked fine. I think it was one
of the patches I installed from the Win Update site after
SP1 that started causing all my problems, but I can't
pinpoint which one. I uninstalled the Advanced Networking
Pack, (Because my friend wasn't running it) alas to no
avail.
