TCP/IP Printer Port - printing problems

Hello,

On the windows xp professional client pc I print to a networked laserjet
3055 that has a fixed IP address. It is attached via a standard tcp/ip
printer port. When I connect to the remote windows xp professional host pc
with remote desktop, I am having trouble recognizing the 3055. I installed
the driver on the host computer and I tried adding the printer to the ts001
or ts002 ports that were created with printer redirection but nothing seems
to work. Now, when I go back to the ports, they say that they are inactive.

Thanks for your help.

I have the exact same problem and was wondering if you ever found a solution?
I looked at the reply that Robert L had posted, but it seems that the "host"
computer must be running Vista in order for the "upgrade" to work.

I Solved it with Microsofts help!!!! I saw this knowledge base article but I
thought it related to older versions of rdp. Once I enabled it on the client
pc, everything worked

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/302361/en-us

I relogged into the host and all my printers, including the laserjet 3055,
were available. It takes about a minute after you login to have the pc
resolve all the ports. Just to reiterate, I was logging into an xp pro (sp2)
with an xp pro (sp2) computer.

Hope this helps.

Thanks... but bummer for me as I also saw that KB article today, but was
unable to get my printers to show up after following the steps outlined.
Hmmmm... (I am also connecting both two and from Win XP Pro SP2)
