TCP/IP network problems over VPN

Hi

I am connected to the computer system at my workplace from home trhough a
VPN tunnel. At home I use a Windows XP Professional to connect to a Windows
2000 Server at work. At first everything works fine. I can browse the remote
server. But when I try to copy certain files the copy operation fails with
one of the following errors (the same problem exists both when using Windows
File Sharing and FTP):

1) The specified network name is no longer available. (Windows File Sharing)
2) The semaphore timeout period has expired. (Windows File Sharing)
3) The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an
application request. (Windows File Sharing)
4) 426 Connection closed; transfer aborted. (FTP)
5) Connection closed by remote host. (FTP)

How much I am able to copy before the copy operation fails depends on wich
file it is! I am in fact able to copy most files but a few fails. For
example:

1) The copy operation of file A with a size of 25 MB succeeds every time.
2) The copy operation of file B with a size of 25 MB fails every time after
aprox. 24 MB.
3) The copy operation of file C with a size of 500KB fails 9 out of 10 times
after aprox. 20 KB.

When a copy operation fails, other connections though the same VPN tunnel
dosn't fail. This must mean that the cause of the failure isn't that the VPN
tunnel is dropped, but that the specific TCP/IP connection through the VPN
tunnel is dropped.

I have tried to zip one of the files that fails. The resulting zip file had,
of course, a different contents but aprox. the same size. When I tried to
copy this zip file the copy operation succeeded!

Another funny thing is that if I try to use FTP to copy "file C" from the
server down to a drive that is mapped on the same server, the copy operation
succeedes! The only difference is that the file is copied through the VPN
tunnel using FTP and then back again through the same VPN tunnel using
Windows File Sharing and not to a local drive.

The VPN tunnel is established using a hardware SonicWall in each end of the
tunnel.

I have tried to use other computers in both ends of the tunnel and the same
problems appears.

I have had a supicion that the problem was MTU releated. But if it was a MTU
size problem would I then be able to copy file A and not file B??

Can anybody help me to solve or find the cause of this problem? I have tried
to solve it on and off for about a month now and I am about to go crazy.
